Research Interests:
In the field of benign gynaecology the relationship between pelvic floor muscle overactivity and pelvic, perineal & vulvar pain disorders is of particular interest. Since 2002 ground-breaking research into the use of Botulinum Toxin Type A and these pain conditions has been undertaken at RHW. Another area of interest is the management of dyspareunia in women who have been treated for breast cancer, a co-operative study between RHW Department of Endo-Gynaecology & PWH Department of Medical Oncology - OVERcome study has been completed. A follow on study using vaginal dilators in women who have been treated for breast cancer & who develop vaginal or introital stenosis under way in 2010. The assessment & management of pudendal neuralgia in women & men is also of interest, with the successful completion of the Pudendal Nerve Block study by a UNSW ILP student under the supervision of Professor Thierry Vancaillie & myself.
