Viruses and Diabetes Research Group

The Viruses and Diabetes Research Group comprises a mix of basic and clinical researchers, with a major focus on investigating the role of the environment in the development of type 1 diabetes and viral pathogenesis of disease.

The ENDIA (Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity) Study (www.endia.org) is a nationwide prospective cohort study recruiting mothers and their offspring to examine the interaction between environmental agents and genetics in the development of islet autoimmunity and type 1 diabetes. The ENDIA study is funded by a NHMRC CRE and  Diabetes Research Foundation/Helmsley Trust.
